Everest Base Camp is a lifetime experience that you don't want to miss!

Best time for Everest base camp trek

In Nepal, spring lasts from February to May and autumn lasts from September to November which makes both seasons perfect to do this trek. These seasons rewards you with clear skies, picturesque views, better visibility, and temperatures that will make your trek pleasant and comfortable. However, in recent years early December has become popular among trekkers as it offers fewer crowds, but the end of December can be dangerous due to high snowfall and trail blockade.

About the Trek

Everest Base camp trek starts with a stunning flight to Tenzing Hillary Airport, known as the world’s, most dangerous airport. This marks the starting point of the trek. The entire trek takes anywhere from 12- 14 days depending on your itinerary. The major attraction of this trek includes reaching the Everest best camp, the view of Mount Everest from Kala Patthar and the views of Mt.  Lhoste, Mt. Ama Dablam and many other peaks. Immersed into the pristine wilderness every day, during the nighttime you will stay in the tea houses which are built and managed by locals that provides basic facilities to the trekkers. These are homely stays where the locals greet you with heart-warming smiles, serve you the fantastic Nepalese food. You can’t help but feel the magic within these communities. With each passing village, you will be surrounded by the nature of the glorious Himalaya. Stay present and immerse yourself in this beauty.

Experiencing the unique and authentic culture of Sherpas is also the major attraction of this trek. You will also visit the famous Tengboche monastery which is the oldest and most spiritual monastery of Khumbu.

Kala Patthar which literally means black rock in Nepali is at the elevation of 5545 meters where you can see the peak of the world's highest mountain i.e. Mount Everest. Reaching this point is considered as the zenith of the trip!

Trek Difficulty

Considered as moderate this trek can also be done by novice hikers with proper training. You don’t need any mountaineering skills to accomplish the goal. With that said this trek demands you to hike in the high altitude 4-6 hours every day and you need to physically fit to do this trek. One of the absolute ways to enjoy the trek is to have enough training prior to the trek. We at Destination Unlimited can answer you with questions regarding the training.

We, Destination Unlimited, have been working since 2010, sharing the memorable and phenomenal memories with trekkers from all over the world. It is our highest responsibility that our guests have the ultimate Himalayan experience, and your safety is our top priority. We will be in touch with our guides throughout the trek and monitor every situation. Since you will be hiking in the higher altitudes, our guides will consistently watch you for any symptoms related to Acute Mountain sickness (AMS). Our team having years and years of experience in doing this trek, knows how to prevent altitude sickness in the first place and help you finish the trek successfully. Also, in case of severe AMS, we will co-coordinate the rescue operations and bring you down safely through helicopter. Our Guides will also carry first Aid kit along with them. But we also recommend every member to their carry own First-Aid kit and other medications they need.

Food during Trekking

For small groups, we will serve the meals that you choose from the tea house or restaurant menu which has a variety of options from Nepali cuisine like our famous Daal Bhat and from Western, Continental, Chinese, Indian cuisines etc. For bigger groups, the group leader and our guide can customize and make their own menu. Also, our guides should be able to answer your questions related to which food will suit you in the mountains and which are not. We are fully aware that good food is the key part of your health and will help you to finish this hike successfully and will help you to choose the right food all along the way.

Tea houses in the Everest region

In this region we can find Teahouses in different categories and are priced from low to high based on the standards and facilities they offer.  Normally in budget package, we provide a clean and comfortable twin sharing room. Bathrooms will be the same floor and not attached to the room. When you book with us, we will work with you to get the right option based on your needs. With that said, after Dingbouche the rooms are mostly basic, and priced higher since these are in high altitude areas.

About drinking water

Mineral water is expensive in the mountains. Even boiled water could cost you US $/liter and gets more expensive when you go up. People also use the water purification tablet or drops or pumping systems that can purify water to save money. There are few options here and based on your price range we can suggest the right option for you.

Unpredictable Lukla weather

The weather in Lukla is unpredictable. Even during the best season of October and November, the weather may go bad and there is a high possibility of delay or even cancellation of the flights. So, we recommend you keep a buffer of minimum 1- 2 days before your return flight back home. Also, taking a chopper is also quite normal in these areas and if that’s the case be prepared to plan for the extra cost.

Our Team

Destination Unlimited have been working since 2010, creating beautiful memories for our guests who travel with us from all over the world. Greatest Physical Achievement of my Life!

I wanted to go solo from the very beginning, I was convinced by a friend who did the trek on her own, I was planning on doing this in 2019. However an opportunity to go to India presented itself and I decided since Nepal is only 2 hours flight from India, I thought I'll swing by and do the trek. Since I was short of time, I decided to just use an agency instead of doing it on my own. Destinations Unlimited was recommended to me by a friend. I reached out to Ashok on facebook, he answered all my questions, and from there, I sent a deposit and told him I am willing to join a group to save some money. Unfortunately, there is no group starting on the date I wanted so I had to do a solo trek, why in hindsight was the best outcome. There was a 2 day delay because of bad weather, first in Lukla, the next in Kathmandu, I ended up going to Lukla via helicopter, this means I have to pay $200 for me, and $200 for my guide, who I met in Kathmandu. I got a refund for the canceled flight, which means I am down only $200 (I am writing this as a warning, so you can plan for it, this is unpredictable, you know, weather, so I suggest make arrangement in advance for a guide that is based in Lukla, maybe Ashok can work this out, just to be sure). Anyway, the guide, Bijay, was super amazing! He is an excellent, experienced guide, couldn't have done it without him.  The trail is probably the most beautiful trail in the world, the trek is super demanding, you have to traverse 5 chain bridges, which make it like you have climbed 5 mountains, so much uphill/downhill climbs. In the end it was super worth it.  Included in the program is a climb to Kala Patthar (5,644 masl). I found EBC to be about 5 to 7 times harder than Kilimanjaro. Ok, sorry, I digress, Destinations Unlimited is a great company. They selected the best tea houses for their guests, and there was dinner and a show after the trek in Kathmandu, sort of like a congratulations for a trek well done. Highly recommended, book your EBC trek with Destinations Unlimited.

    14 days EBC Trekking

Our group comprise of 4 family members and a family friend, ranging from the ages 28-60years old. We practically had no training or very little training ( 247m being the highest point in our training) prior to this but we made it to above 5000m with minimal glitches...all these made possible with the professional planning and services from Ashok, our funny, caring and helpful guides Ganga and Badal and not forgetting our 3 very2 strong porters Sudeep, Tanka and Vera...without all of you, we might not have made it there. Thank you for one of the most unforgettable and beautiful experience in my life and for your friendship ....my no.1 choice for future trekking.

We were a group of 5 family/friends of varying fitness levels doing our first trek. Ashok and his team was very professional and accommodating. Our guides Ganga and Badal made sure that we were well fed and taken care off, and was great fun to be around with! Despite this being our first trek, we manage to make it to 5000m above sea level, as well as Kalapathar! Once again, many thanks to Ashok for organizing our trip for us, Ganga and Badal for being our guides, as well as our porters Vena, Tanka and Sudeep for carrying our bags. We wouldn't have made it without any of them!
